Everyone loves the F-body, but you never hear too much about the SN95.

That’s still an sn95, chassis didn’t change until 2005 and there were sn197. Sn95 mustangs are great especially the early ones with a 5.0..... But I’m completely biasis.

You mean SN95 (1994-2004)? I had a 1997 GT and it was a fun car, but way down on power compared to the Camaro Z28 of the time and its chassis still harkened back to the Fox platform, so it was a bit like a wet noodle.

The 4.6 mod kinda sucks, at least compared to the LT or LS in the Camaros.

Absolute garbage interior, first car I ever rode in where “Fischer Price Interior” was truly an apt description. Also, 4.6 is pretty anemic.

The 4.6 kind of sucks to work on, but it can make a ton of power if you really put effort into it.

The chassis is similar to the Fox, so it has plenty of potential, but in stock form it’s a bit flexy and a bit quick to kick the tail out.

But, there were some fun versions made. Bullitt, Cobra, Terminator Cobra, Mach 1.... I had a Mach 1 for a few years, it was amazing in an “old school modern car” type of way.

If I were to rank stangs, this would probably be last place (excluding Cobra R).

I mean, i’d rock an extremely clean manual GT or Corbra. But those are as rare as a crosswalk button that actually works.

From what I’ve read, the 96-98 2v 4.6 Mod is “Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” It sounds wonderful but has limited potential. The new-edge SN95 added CVPI heads for better breathing.

I had a 2000 V6 and a 2001 GT. I like the New Edge, even if they pale in comparison to the F body in almost every imaginable metric

Somehow they seemed to have more interior space than the F-body. I think the more upright seating position, comparatively, greatly helped in this aspect. People that say “LOL Fisher Price interior” OBVIOUSLY   hadn’t been in a 4G Camaro as it’s objectively worse.

Neither the V6 or the V8 are particularly stout engines. At least the 4.6 makes a reasonably good noise. 260 hp in a 2000-2004 is laughable when the Z28 had 275 ten years prior. But the mod does look cool, and sound alright

Both the auto and manual transmissions are regarded as serviceable. That’s about all I can say there; they do their job and neither are particularly outstanding

The 2001 Bullitt is also on my dream car list

I still love the New Edge I sold a couple years ago. I miss that car. I kinda see them like Jeeps. Plug and play with an aftermarket that has everything you could wish for.

Yes, the interior isn’t great. The panel gap below the radio is especially atrocious. The 4.6 doesn’t make a ton of power - especially the early 2V ones. Later 4.6 with the PI heads are good. 4V’s can make power for days.

Limp noodle, bad chassis...blah blah blah. Way better than the Fox. Stiffer. Better ride and handling. Road tests of the day put the handling of the New Edge above an F-Body. Drop it 1.5", no more, no less and it still looks better than the S197, Fox, Mustang II, or the early 1970's cars. S550 does look better.

Let people hate on them. Foxes will go up for some dumb reason. I’ll get my New Edge back stupid cheap one day. Then the build begins.

With a decent driver and a few choice mods, a New Edge can hang with/beat an S197 on an autocross course.

I’m biased.

Early 2V’s aren’t awesome. PI heads for the 99+ help. 4V’s will make power for days.

Are they truly great cars? No.

But they’re cheap, fun, durable, and sound good. The chassis is also surprisingly capable if you’re willing to put some money into a proper setup.

The later ones are some of my favorite sounding cars with a decent exhaust setup. The interiors I would rank similiar to my ‘94 camaro (cheap). The seating position is much higher than an f-body and the shifter is kinda goofy in my opinion. Still, I think the New Edge models can be great looking cars.

They seem to be pretty close to the bottom of the depreciation curve. If you find a good deal on a later GT or SVT model, snag it. They don’t excel in any particular fashion, but they take to modifications very well, and it’s still a sporty RWD car you can have fun in.

I don’t know enough about F-bodies to draw a good comparison. But I hear that reaching the rear plugs in an F-body of that era was pretty awful...

The SN95 is like the Fox in many respects. A bit heavier than the Fox, but refined in many ways. (It’s nice to not have to take apart the front wheel bearings to swap brake rotors, for one thing.) The 4.6 makes for a helluva tight engine bay, but at least the plugs are on top. I prefer the old pushrod engines though, which is why I chose a 1995 model. Best of both worlds, IMO. ’94 and ’95 were the final years for the ol’ 5.0, and the only years that you could get it in the SN95 chassis. Too bad the engine didn’t stick around so that it could be had with the New Edge body.

Performancewise they were a step up from the fox but they had some quality issues and a bad interior. Mostly though they’re just not yet old enough to be wanted for the nostalgia factor.

They’re fine for what they are, but as long as Fox Mustangs exist I’d never buy an SN95 or New Edge.

The only one to care about is the 03/04 Cobra or the 4v cars.

The Cobra’s price reflects that as well. They go for about the same as a mint Supra will. It also is an excellent car. Modern power + full independent suspension.

Former co-worker used to love them. He had a terminator though. It was fast, but as others have mentioned, that interior...ugh.
